Privacy Policy
This policy explains how memoru collects, uses, and stores data when you use the browser extension (for Chrome and other Chromium browsers), the web app, and related services.
1. What memoru does
memoru captures live captions from Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom Web in your browser. It also captures Google Meet in-meeting chat when available and labels chat separately from captions. When you are signed in, these segments sync to memoru servers during the meeting. You can review them in the web app and request an AI summary there when that feature is available.
memoru can also record the audio of a meeting, but only when you press Record in the meeting panel. It never starts recording on its own. A recording contains the meeting audio played in your browser tab and your own microphone, and nothing else: memoru does not record your camera, video, or screen. Recordings may include the voices of other meeting participants, who are not memoru users and may not know that you are recording (see section 3 and our terms).
2. Data we collect
- Account data: email address, account and device identifiers, plan status, and sign-in session tokens. The extension keeps its connection token in local browser extension storage.
- Meeting metadata: meeting id, title, platform, start and end times, status, and the meeting page URL stored locally by the extension to reconnect to a meeting.
- Meeting content: live caption and Google Meet chat text, with speakers and timestamps, synced when you are signed in.
- Meeting audio: when you press Record, the audio of the meeting tab and your microphone, together with the recording's status, length and upload progress.
- Extension settings: meeting site access, capture and notification preferences, and language preference, stored on your device.
- Usage metrics: counts of summaries generated (for limits and product metrics).
- Technical logs: request metadata needed to operate and secure the service (for example IP, user agent, error codes). We do not log full transcripts in application error logs.
3. How captions and recordings move
- When you are signed out, captions and available chat appear as a live preview only. The extension does not save or sync a signed-out transcript.
- When you are signed in, the extension buffers meeting content on your device and periodically syncs it to memoru servers during the meeting. If a connection fails, it retries later.
- You can view synced meetings in the web app. Unsynced local meetings can be exported or deleted from the extension's recovery page.
- When AI summaries are available, transcript text is sent for AI processing only after you request a summary in the web app.
- Recording starts only after you press Record, and Chrome asks for access to the tab audio (and, when needed, your microphone). It stops when you stop it. Recording requires you to be signed in.
- While recording, the extension saves the audio in short pieces on your device and uploads them to memoru's cloud storage. Local pieces are removed from your device once the recording is uploaded. If an upload fails, the extension retries later.
- memoru joins the pieces into one recording that you can play back in the web app, next to the transcript.
- Where a recording covers a stretch of the meeting that has no captions, the audio for that stretch may be sent to a speech-to-text provider to produce transcript lines.
4. Why we use the data
- To provide cloud transcript sync and the web app.
- To store your recordings, play them back, and transcribe the parts of a meeting that have no captions.
- To generate AI summaries when you request them.
- To authenticate you and protect accounts.
- To enforce anti-abuse rate limits and (when enabled) plan limits.
- To improve reliability and diagnose outages.
5. Third parties
- AI provider: may receive transcript text only when you request a summary, to generate that summary.
- Speech-to-text provider: may receive meeting audio only to transcribe stretches that have no captions, and only to return the transcript lines.
- Email provider (Mailtrap): sends magic-link sign-in messages.
- Infrastructure: hosting, database, cloud storage (which holds your recordings), and CDN providers that process data to run the service.
- Payment processor: may process subscriptions if paid plans become available. memoru does not store full card numbers.
6. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
We do not sell user data or share it with advertising platforms or data brokers. We use meeting content (captions, chat, and audio) and account data only to provide, secure, and improve memoru's meeting transcript service and requested summaries. We do not use this data for personalized advertising, creditworthiness decisions, or lending. We share data with service providers only as needed to deliver the service, comply with law, or protect against fraud or abuse. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
7. Retention
We keep account, meeting, and synced transcript data while your account is active so you can reopen past meetings. The extension schedules removal of local copies of ended, successfully synced meetings after 24 hours. Unsynced local meetings remain available for recovery. You can delete them in the extension or by removing the extension. You may request deletion of your account and associated server data by contacting support.
We keep a recording until it is deleted. The owner of a meeting, or an owner or admin of the workspace it belongs to, can delete a meeting's audio in the web app. Playback stops immediately, and the audio files are then removed from storage. Deleting the audio does not delete the transcript. Anyone who can open a meeting (its owner and active members of its workspace) can play its recording.
Backup copies may remain for a limited period after deletion.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data, including recordings of your voice. Contact us at the address below to make a request.
9. Children
memoru is not directed at children under 16. Do not use the service if you are under 16.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the “Last updated” date above. Material changes may also be announced in the product or by email.
